Taipei, May 16 (CNA) Organizers of the Taiwan-based Tang Prize -- commonly referred to as Asia's Nobel Prize -- said on Friday they are promoting the award in Moscow.
At the invitation of Boris Vladimirovich Gusev, president of the Russian Academy of Engineering, the Tang Prize Foundation's CEO Chern Jenn-chuan led a 13-member delegation to attend the International Conference on Concrete and Reinforced Concrete from May 12-16.
During their stay in Moscow, Chern also got the chance to visit public universities in the Russian capital, including Moscow State University of Civil Engineering, and Mendeleev Russian University of Chemistry and Technology.
Gusev invited Chern to visit Russia again to promote the Tang Prize, and to learn more about Russian efforts and contributions in various fields.
Established in 2012 by Taiwanese entrepreneur Samuel Yin, the Tang Prize seeks to honor top researchers in sustainable development, biopharmaceutical science, Sinology and rule of law.
The first laureates will be selected based on the originality and impact of their research, irrespective of their nationality or ethnicity.
The winners will be announced on June 18, with an award ceremony to take place three months later on Sept. 18. Up to three winners will share a cash prize of NT$50 million (US$1.64 million) for each category.
The biennial prize takes its name from the Tang Dynasty (618-907 A.D.), a period often considered the height of ancient Chinese civilization, characterized by liberal policies and robust cultural activities.
