Promoting Gender Equality
The programme seeks to address gender inequality, a pervasive issue that affects women across all socio-economic backgrounds. Key objectives include:
1. Empowering women, particularly those from underserved or marginalized groups, to understand their rights and access resources to achieve equality.
2. Tackling societal challenges such as unequal pay, underrepresentation in leadership roles, and barriers to accessing higher education or employment opportunities.
3. Encouraging young women to aspire to leadership roles and challenge societal norms that perpetuate inequality.
Driving Climate Action through Intergenerational Collaboration
Recognizing Mary Robinson’s commitment to climate justice, the programme aims to foster action at the community level by leveraging the strengths of different generations. Objectives include:
1 Enhancing understanding of climate change and its local and global impacts.
2. Promoting collaboration between older and younger generations to address sustainability challenges.
3. Encouraging actionable, community-driven solutions that align with Ireland’s Climate Action Plan.
Methods:
Project 1: Gender Equality in the Community Workshops
The Gender Equality in the Community Workshops will target diverse
groups, ensuring that the content is relevant and impactful for each
audience. Key methods include:
1. Legal and Human Rights Education
(1)Workshops will be facilitated by experienced legal professionals and human rights advocates.
(2)Topics will include understanding gender rights in Ireland,navigating societal systems, and accessing opportunities in education and employment.
2. Tailored Content for Specific Groups
(1) Community Groups: Raise awareness about women’s rights and provide practical tools to promote gender equality at the local level.
(2) International Protection Applicants (IPAs): Offer culturally sensitive workshops to help IPA women understand their rights in Ireland, particularly in areas where their experiences may differ significantly from their home countries.
(3) People with Additional Needs: Address the unique barriers faced by individuals with disabilities, focusing on independence, employment opportunities, and civic participation.
(4) Youth Groups and Schools: Equip young women with the confidence and knowledge needed to pursue higher education, leadership roles, and meaningful careers.
(5) Indigenous Ethnic Minority (Irish Travelling Community): Provide culturally tailored workshops to empower Traveller women, equipping them with the skills to overcome systemic repression and engage in politics, the workforce, and community leadership.
3.Interactive and Practical Learning
Incorporate role-playing, group discussions, and scenario-based activities to make the workshops engaging and actionable. Host Q&A sessions with inspiring female leaders to encourage dialogue and mentorship.
Project 2: Irish Climate Action Plan Programme
The Irish Climate Action Plan Programme will address the urgent need for
community-driven climate solutions, leveraging the strengths of different
generations.
1.Workshops on Climate Change and Sustainability
(1) Facilitate workshops led by environmental law specialists and sustainability experts.
(2) Topics will include Ireland’s Climate Action Plan, sustainable living practices, and actionable strategies for reducing environmental impact.
2. Community-Led Solutions
(1) Encourage participants to identify and address specific environmental challenges in their communities, such as waste management, food sustainability, and energy conservation.
(2) Support initiatives like pop-up repair shops, community gardens, and digital literacy classes for older participants.
3. Outreach and Support
(1) Provide ongoing mentorship and resources to help participants implement their solutions.
(2) Use the MRC’s online platform to share success stories, resources, and updates.
Expected Outcomes:
Project 1: Gender Equality in the Community Workshops

Project 2: Irish Climate Action Plan Programme
(1) Enhanced understanding of climate change and practical ways to address it.
(2) Stronger intergenerational relationships that foster mutual respect and cooperation.
(3) Tangible environmental improvements, such as reduced waste and increased community engagement in sustainability initiatives.
(4) Greater community resilience and readiness to contribute to Ireland’s Climate Action Plan.
