Recipients of the 2014 Tang Prize will be announced over four days of press conferences (June 18-21) at the Academia Sinica. Current Academia Sinica President Dr. Wong Chi-Huey and previous Academia Sinica President and Nobel Laureate Dr. Yuan T. Lee are both scheduled to attend.
Founded in December 2012, the Tang Prize is a biennial award given for outstanding achievements in four categories: Sustainable Development, Biopharmaceutical Science, Sinology, and Rule of Law. A cash prize of NT$40 million is awarded to individuals or organizations who have made an original contribution to humanity. In addition to the cash prize, recipients also receive a research grant of at most $NT10 million. The prize is the first such international academic award to be based in Taiwan and will be commencing its inaugural year in 2014. Award recipients will be announced during four press conferences running from June 18-21, after which the awards ceremony will commence on September 18.
