I congratulate the five women scientists we have chosen to be key players in the Gro Brundtland Week of Women in Sustainable Development. You have already proven a personal commitment to contribute to the essential knowledge base for moving the world forward towards a safer and more secure future. Women will have a key role to play in making it all happen, in every society and nation.
2015 was a year of great achievement for the international community, finally agreeing on the Sustainable Development Goals, applicable to all our countries, rich and poor. I t was a major achievement, 28 years after the launch of "Our Common Future "in 1987, and was an inspiration as the world was also facing the challenge of agreeing on a Global Climate Deal and Framework. You, young and with a lifetime of achievement ahead of you, will be frontrunners in the historically so meaningful process of change to save the livelihoods of future generations, their human rights and Planet Earth itself. I wish you all success in this inspiring process for decades to come!
